Snap lock edge lap.

A couple months ago we posted about a pretty cool CNC scissor chair that can be built out of a single sheet of 1/2″ plywood and a CNC machine.

Now we’re back with this impressive collection of flat stock joinery methods thoughtfully compiled by contributor Sean Ragan.

The slotted “edge lap” joint is definitely a favorite. In one version, the snap-locking detail can be unlocked with a flat-head screwdriver to re-open the joint. With a slight variation the locking mechanism is rendered “irreversible.”

CNC users will also enjoy the “Flexures” section, which showcases the elasticity of panel materials to make hinges and springs. Very nice.
