This simple and utilitarian project serves as a perfect introduction to woodworking. The step stool requires very little lumber or tools. Its traditional Shaker design gives it a quiet beauty, making it a good fit for any home. It can be used for getting to high shelves and cabinets, kids reaching a sink, dogs getting into bed, and a host of other things. This project is a beginner’s course in board preparation and hand-cut dovetails. Experts can use the small stature to really nit-pick their design and execution.
Your step stool is project that I’m about to undertake. I like the design of the dovetails it makes the stool standout. Great job on the stool and all your builds.
I would like a measured drawing of this
that step stool looks just about perfect for someone like me to make.. it looks like a fun little project to make for myself or even a friend of mine.. what kind of wood would you use for a project like this one?
My Dad used to make one of these for everyone, friends & family, who had a new baby.
It was an awesome gift, as the parents & family could see the young one utilize the step-stool, then outgrow it; brushing their teeth, or washing their hands over the years;
then putting it aside. (I’m a “big kid now”)
My Mom even helped out with wood-burning the name on the top, or otherwise giving it a personal touch for each individual child.
Mom & Dad made a great team and churned out a lot of these for kids.
