Radiant floors are increasingly popular in new builds, but when it comes to retrofitting, they have their issues—not to mention cost. Matsushita has an innovative alternative that will keep your toesies warm and the electric bill (relatively) sane. Via a built-in IR sensor, the Adaptive Electric Carpet will detect when someone is in the room and adjust its heat output to suit. While warming rugs are nothing new in many parts of the world (Japan comes to mind), the potential energy savings of the auto-sensing feature is a nice touch. The obvious question is what happens when you spill your chainti? Still trying to get word on pricing and availability.
