For those of us who like watching paint dry—and yes, I’m one—there’s all new excitement in the laundry room. Kenmore is releasing the Oasis HE washer and dryer with viewing windows for each—on a top-loader, no less. Now that’s cool. But the features go way beyond viewing—there’s the “canyon capacity” for 23 regular-size bath towels, made possible by removing the agitator. Now someone’s finally thinking—maybe I can even keep my clothes from getting munched by the monster! Timed dispensers do their work while you’re not looking and the cycles are faster using less water. Drying time is shortened, too, thanks to the ultra efficient spin cycle in the washer and a combo blowing system in the dryer. Work time reduced and a hip look in white, blue, or black make this pair worthy of the $1,500 to $2,000 price tag. Let’s hope they’re more reliable than their predecessor the Calypso and available soon.
