For the record, I am not a conservation nut—but I’m working on it. I mean, I don’t use the water I brush my teeth with to wash my hands or anything of that extreme nature (pun intended), but I’m trying to be a little more conscientious about matters concerning energy use. So, today we’re talking about the Desktop Air Conditioner. This engaging gadget is powered by 2 “D” batteries or an AC jack (via an adapter that is not included). It powers an internal fan that draws air across ice and cools the area around your desk. To supply the ice, simply freeze a water-filled bottle (included) and place it in the unit. For around $20, the only thing you’ll be beating is the heat. I cannot speak to the unit’s effectiveness, but if it really helps us turn off the AC and save some energy, I’d say we have a winner on our hands. Thinking green can be cool—literally.
