Fire safety is one of those things you rarely think about until the moment you really, really need it. Having a good escape route from the upper floors of your house is one of those moments. I always thought fire escape ladders looked cool on the side of buildings in New York City but they look pretty goofy on houses in the suburbs. Now Reddco of Lewisberry, Pennsylvania, has found a way around this aesthetic dilemma with their product, the Redi-Exit. In its normal closed position, the Redi-Exit looks like a normal downspout on the side of the home. But with the press of a button from the upper floors, the pipe transforms into a escape ladder. It is available for two or three story homes up to 35 feet off the ground and can support up to 800 pounds at a time. It is available for purchase online.
