Look for the “Design for the Environment” label to find products with the safest possible ingredients and help protect the environment and your family. Created by the Environmental Protection Agency, the DfE compares an ingredient’s characteristics to other chemicals in the same class. In simplier terms, solvents, for example, are compared to other solvents. The DfE makes sure that only the safest ingredients from each class are used. The program is showing good results. It has reached more than 200,000 business facilities and approximately 2 million workers. In 2006, Americans using products with the DfE label cut the use of harmful chemicals by 59 million pounds.
