A hand shower brings convenience and flexibility to the shower space.

 

Carefully read instructions that come with the hand shower kit. Make sure the water to the shower is shut off.

Materials:

– Adjustable wrench
– Hand shower kit
– Mineral spirits
– Plumber’s strap or tape
– Rag

Step 1: Remove the old showerhead.


Use an adjustable wrench to unscrew and remove the old showerhead. Use a rag and mineral spirits to completely clean the threads on the shower stem to remove all traces of old plumber’s tape or thread compound.

Step 2: Prepare the shower stem.


If the new hand shower kit comes with one, slide the decorative rubber boot onto the shower stem. Tightly wrap two layers of plumber’s tape onto the threads of the shower stem.
Wrap two layers of plumber’s tape around the stem threads.

Step 3: Install the shower arm mount.


Screw the shower arm mount onto the shower stem until it is snug. Use an adjustable wrench to tighten the mount. Do not over-tighten. Twist the shower arm mount so that the hose threads face the floor.
Make sure the hose threads face the floor.

Step 4: Install the shower hose.


Position the washer that came with the kit over the end of the shower hose. Screw the hose onto the shower arm mount and hand-tighten. Be sure not to cross the threads. Slide the decorative rubber boot down to the shower arm mount.
Screw the hose onto the shower arm mount.

Step 5: Attach the showerhead to the shower hose.


Check the other end of the shower hose to make sure that the washer inside is in place. Screw the showerhead onto that end of the shower hose and tighten by hand. Be sure not to cross the threads as you tighten. Place the showerhead onto the shower arm mount. Test the unit by slowly turning on the water. The new hand shower is now ready for use.
Screw the showerhead onto the shower hose.
