The New York Times has an interesting report on the construction involved in converting a defunct elevated rail line into a pedestrian walkway. When completed, the line running from Gansevoort Street to 34th Street will be a green walkway providing amazing views of Manhattan. Construction has been going on all winter and some of the workers love the cold. It’s a big relief from working in the sun on an un-shaded stretch of metal and concrete. Construction should be completed sometime next fall. And, according to the deputy mayor of economic development, it’s on budget. Can’t wait to see it when it’s completed.
