Considering that wind power is both a renewable and clean-burning energy source, it’s a technology that should be fully embraced by homeowners. Now, the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) makes that task a little easier with their web page on how to build your own small wind project. It guides DIYers through each step—from financing, getting a building permit, evaluating a site and connecting to the grid. The AWEA encourages builders to take advantage of rebates and tax credits. If the right incentives are applied the wind turbines can usually pay for themselves in 15 years, half of their serviceable lifetime.
