Turns out cycling superstar Lance Armstrong, known for his strong social conscience, is the largest consumer of water in Austin, Texas. According to this New York Times article, his Spanish-Colonial home used 330,000 gallons of water in the month of July, about 38 times the average homeowners’ usage. He’s not acting like a good role model considering the city is having a dry spell and residents are being asked to cut back on watering their lawns.
So far Armstrong’s response has been encouraging. On being informed of the situation by the Austin-American Statesman, the newspaper that originally broke the story, he responded, “I’m a little shocked. There’s no justification for that much water.” He added, “I need to fix this.” Maybe he should take a look at our article of water-saving solutions.
