Halloween can be a fun time for your children as they trick-or-treat and parade around the neighborhood in costumes. For me, I enjoy having the opportunity to say hi to my neighbors instead of just a casual wave when we’re all taking out the trash. My son, who turns three in January, selected his own costume this year for the first time and is going to be a tiger. Roar!
But remember that part of having fun is staying safe. Always have your child carry a flashlight and put on reflective wear. Also, be very cautious about what candy your child eats. Check the Web, in particular the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CFIA), for candy recalls.
Recently, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) recalled Sherwood Brands Pirate’s Gold Milk Chocolate Coins, which are sold nationally through Costco stores and in bulk packages or as individual pieces at various dollar and bulk stores across Canada. These sales also trickle down to the U.S., so we in the States should be warned as well. The coins are being recalled due to positive test results for melamine conducted by the CFIA.
Make sure that the only scary part of this holiday is the fun costumes and decorations.
