The Botanist’s Sketchbook
For a design based on sixteenth century Turkish aesthetics, Kohler’s Botanical Study is remarkably versatile. The design, shown here on Kohler’s Kathryn Undercounter lavatory, works well with most muted tones and natural materials. Yet for all its versatility, the sink is certainly a unique addition to your bathroom. The intricate tulips and chrysanthemums entwined around the basin are reminiscent of sketches one might find in a botanist’s sketchbook from the Renaissance.
The sink is made of vitreous china, and measures 17″L by 13″W.
Price: $867

Grecian Urn
Like Native Trails’ sinks, Artisan’s vessels are handcrafted from copper. But unlike the Palisades sink pictured earlier in the gallery, the Artisan’s K811 sink is a bowl set above the counter. Its intricate pattern of flowers and leaves evokes the Tuscan countryside or an ancient Grecian urn. It would work well in any bathroom that draws on warm, rich Mediterranean oranges, yellows, or pinks.
The sink measures 16-7/8″ wide and 5-3/8″ deep.

Native Artistry
The Palisades sink by Native Trails marries a Traditional design with both an unconventional material and modern folk art charm. The sink is an unusual take on the beloved apron-front sink commonly seen in kitchens — Native Trails converted that Traditional design, usually seen in porcelain, into a delicate lavatory sink crafted from copper.
The sinks are hand-hammered by artisans in Central Mexico, who use recycled telephone wire and copper tubing as materials. Notice the distinctive hammer texture on the sink, which adds a unique, hand-crafted look to this fixture.
The Palisades sink is shown here in a russet-colored Antique finish, but it’s also available in Brushed Nickel. The sink measures 20″ by 17″ by 5″, with a 1.5″ drain.
Price: $1275 in antique; $1695 in brushed nickel

Edwardian Embellishments
A pedestal sink is often a stately, Traditional alternative to more Contemporary over-counter options. And the Charleston Washbasin by Herbeau is no exception. This vitreous china sink calls to mind the flourishes of the late Victorian and early Edwardian eras, from the hand-engraved shell soap holders to the heart-shaped overflow to the scroll-like backsplash. Available in 12 flowery finishes, but shown here in traditional white porcelain, this washbasin is sold separately from its pedestal, called the Charleston pedestal. The pedestal is 24″ tall and 9 ¼” wide on its own, while the whole set-up is 27 ½” wide, 20 1/8″ deep, and 35 ½” tall.
Price: $1439 for the washbasin; $746 for the pedestal

Lacy Elegance
If you want your bathroom to exude the understated elegance of the Old World, consider the Waza Barocco Undercounter sink. The floral design imprinted on the porcelain is a modern reinterpretation of the lace that decorated aristocratic wedding dresses in Baroque Europe. It’s perfect for a bathroom that strives to be elegant and old-fashioned without being stuffy.
The Waza Barocco is part of a line of sinks just released by TOTO in April, all of which draw their inspiration from ancient designs of both Western and Eastern cultures. Other sinks in the collection are patterned with Moorish and Persian geometric designs.
The sink measures 18 ¾” by 13 ¾”.
Price: $600
