Almost 175,000 GE Dishwashers have been recalled due to a fire hazard. GE Profile and GE Monogram Dishwashers were the two models cited in the CPSC recall.

Water condensation that drips onto the electronic control board can cause a short circuit, which results in an overheated connector that can lead to a fire. Apparently there have been five reports of fire–four of them caused damage to the kitchen countertops. Fortunately no one has been injured.

Be sure to check out the CPSC recall page for brand and model information.

Here’s something everyone should know: it’s illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product. That’s a sentence in the recall that sometimes gets overlooked. Hard to imagine someone trying to sell a dishwasher with a fire hazard, but I guess the law is there for a reason.
