The Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued the voluntary recall of over 67,000 chest freezers imported by Haier America due to a fire hazard. A capacitor in the freezer’s circuitry can overheat, causing a fire. 18 incidents have been reported, four of which included fire and minor property damage.

The recall involves both Black & Decker and Haier models of the freezer. The freezer pictured is of the Black & Decker Model BFE53. Haier Model ESNCM053E is the other model recalled. You can find serial numbers for both models on the CPSC recall page.

Folks who own either model should unplug it immediately and schedule an appointment for a free freezer repair. Additional info can be found at www.chestfreezerrecall.com.
