STIHL and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission just announced the recall of some 2.3 million yard power products due to a burn and fire hazard. The recall includes gas-powered STIHL trimmers, brushcutters, KombiMotors, hedge trimmers, edgers, clearing saws, pole pruners and backpack blowers.

All of the recalled products use a toolless fuel cap, which can become distorted by the level of ethanol and other fuel additives. This allows the fuel to spill, creating the fire and burn hazard.

81 reports have been received of difficulty refastening and/or removing fuel cap as well as reports of fuel spillage. So far there have been no injuries reported.

Go to the CPSC recall page for a full list of Model and Serial numbers of the recalled products to determine if you own own. You can also go to STIHL’s website for additional information and product photos.

If you own one of the recalled STIHL products you should stop using it immediately and return them to an authorized STIHL dealer for a free repair.
