98,000 dehumidifiers made by LG Electronics were recalled due to a fire hazard associated with the units. The dehumidifiers — which have sold under the Goldstar and Comfort-Aire names — have caused more than $1,000,000 in property damages from fires.

The dehumidifiers were initially recalled in December of 2009 following eleven incidents. Since then there have been 16 additional incident reports that cite arcing, smoking and fire associated with the dehumidifiers. Nine of those reports involved serious fires. Thankfully no injuries were reported.

The units were sold at The Home Depot, Walmart, Ace Hardware, Do It Best and other retailers nationwide through 2008. The CPSC has issued this recall again because only 2 percent of the 98,000 consumers who purchased a unit made an effort to get a free repair. That means there are still thousands of these units out there posing a fire risk to consumers.
