Worried about your privacy on the Smart Grid? How about National Security?

The Department of Energy is on it. In the most recent initiative, a “maturity model” is being developed to allow utility companies and grid operators to check for “gaps in their cyber defenses.”

The threat? Cyber bullies.

No, seriously though, one of the bigger concerns with Smart Grid Safety is protecting against legitimate cyber attacks, which could compromise the grid and the flow of electricity to homes across the country.

Ever see Live Free or Die Hard? That’s basically what the DOE is looking to prevent. Because John McClane is way too old to be coming to the rescue.

Hopefully this will put us a step closer to actually experiencing the Smart Grid. Check out the full report on the DOE site.
