This rare druzy quartz formation, also from the Los Torres Mine in Artigas, Uruguay, showcases thousands of tiny, glittering smoky quartz crystals that blanket its surface in a delicate shimmer. Formed within the same basaltic lava flows that yield Uruguay’s famous amethyst, smoky quartz acquires its distinctive color through natural irradiation of aluminum impurities within the crystal lattice.
