Tommy’s Mt Everest: The Bombe Secretary. On a trip to the RISD Museum in 2006, Tommy found his greatest of all inspiration in a Serpentine Front Bombe Secretary on display. What would soon be dubbed “the beast” took Tommy a solid year to complete. This video series is an absolute treasure, documenting the creation of Tommy’s biggest achievement to date, which has since been on display at the Massachusetts Historical Society, the RISD Museum and in Doric Hall of the Massachusetts State House.
Just got done watching the 26 or whatever part series on the Bombe build. You’re a friggin monster. Awesome to see some real in shop bs. In awe of the skills and laughin’ my ass off in the same moment. Keep loading up that old school stuff. You’re an inspiration to any mook grabbin’ his tool. Ha. Thanks Tommy.
Hey Tommy
I remember watching each and every episode you made for this build as I was just getting my feet wet in woodworking. I was living in Japan at the time and i was so stoked!! I watched each one many times. What great woodworking and what a genuine look at true craftsmanship from inside an amazing project. I especially valued how you were not afraid to show your frustrations and mistakes, and those creative fixes… And after maybe a hundred episodes or more, finally, the grand completion. I think I felt almost as strong a sense of completion as you did… Almost.
Thank you for sharing and congratulations on your well deserved successes.
Thanks also to Al and later on Eli.
Sometime, maybe make the whole series available again?
Cheers,
Brian
Great work on the Bombe! I remember when you started the piece. Was there an episode after the review/critique? Just curious to hear the comments and how the piece was received. Also, where is the piece now?
