LEDs are already the most cost-effective method of lighting your home. And now a new method of manufacturing them invented at Cambridge University may reduce those costs by 75 percent over the next five years. This next generation of LEDs cost one-tenth of what normal LEDs cost to make and last for 60 years. They also do not contain mercury, unlike current LEDs. The lead scientist on the project says this may be the “holy grail” of lighting. Let’s hope they get to market as soon as possible.
