This sleek Contemporary kitchen showcases cabinets made of formaldehyde-free Pure Bond plywood and engineered oak rift veneer. Snowflake and Pewter
Designer Candlelight Cabinetry created this “shabby chic” look that’s fancy, but also works with today’s lifestyle. The maple cabinets are finished with Snowflake paint and pewter accent and sport the company’s “Le Metro” arched mullion doors. The white cabinets are off-set by the color-contrasting sable-glazed kitchen island.

Notice the chunky elements that help transform the standard layout in this kitchen. The island is topped with three-inch thick limestone, black slate countertops showcase a custom-made apron-front farmhouse sink, and an oversized seven-foot-wide custom hood features bold plaster brackets. This French Country kitchen combines a sensational look with functionality. Maple Kitchen
The maple cabinetry in this kitchen was finished in Fawn stain with a Van Dyke glaze. Designer Deb Foster of Crown Point Cabinetry chose an extra-thick granite countertop for the central island, as well as a farmhouse sink, hand-crafted grape-and-leaf corbels, and pigeon-hole drawers for storing odds and ends.

This kitchen’s cabinets’ streamlined look is achieved through their frameless style, which bases each cabinet on its own carcass or box. The drawers are also soft-close and full-extension, making it easy to access everything inside. The cabinet veneers are made using two woods: zebrawood, a horizontal-grained beige African wood known for its black and brown streaks, and vertically grained black walnut.

In this New Hampshire lake house, the kitchen and dining area are divided by an island of beaded inset maple cabinetry, topped with wood on the upper level and blue Azul granite on the lower level. In this traditional kitchen, the refrigerator and drawers are integrated into maple cabinetry painted ivory with a light glaze. Designer Mark T. White took care to conceal the modern conveniences of this space, such as the microwave and the TV, so as not to detract from the classic traditional style—and adding to the historical aspect of this space, the breakfast bar is fashioned from a pine beam once in an historic church in Annapolis.

Carefully Chosen Details
This kitchen centers around these maple Merillat cabinets, finished in biscotti with cocoa glaze. But the carefully chosen details are as important as the central features: mullion cabinet doors with interior lighting, coved corbels below the cabinets, twist split posts and cove legs beneath the 42-inch sink base, and the aged bronze knob and pulls that complement the faucet and lights.

Mixing Two Styles
When designing this kitchen, John B.A. Idstrom II needed to bridge the difference between the client’s Contemporary taste and the building’s historic architecture. He used the more Traditional approach of white-painted cabinetry with fretwork to contrast with sleek white Carrara marble tiles, a slab marble countertop and backsplashes, and the latest in crisp stainless steel technology.

English designer Clive Christian premiered this kitchen’s Victorian cabinetry in 1990, thus transforming the kitchen from a workspace into a vital component of the ultimate luxury home and lifestyle. The cabinets are finished using a combination of prime coat, color coat, color glaze and varnish, and are elegantly embellished with carved corbels and decorative brackets. For storage, the kitchen features plate racks and wall units that incorporate small drawers and molded top rails.

This kitchen draws from the cozy and casual look of scenic villages in France with their exposed beams, floral patterns, detailed carvings and cheery shades of blue or raspberry. The kitchen’s details fill the space with charm, from the crown molding to the decorative feet. The cabinetry has a furniture piece feel, and notice that the intricate Habersham hood cut out in the ceiling matches the shape of the island top—designer Kristin A. Okeley left no detail overlooked.
