Proving that any machine with a motor can be raced, Hazard Factory hosted the 2006 Seattle Power Tool Race this past weekend. Participants were invited to modify their favorite power tools, converting them into vehicles that competed in head-to-head races along a 50-foot-long wooden track course. One of the highlights was undoubtedly the stapler-vs-toaster battle. My personal favorite entry was the fierce and intimidating rocket-boosted belt sander. Creativity was in abundance throughout—it’s sometimes difficult to tell what the tool originally was. If you missed out, don’t despair, Hazard Factory will hold another race next year.
