The price of gasoline is going through the roof and people are finally looking to live in walkable neighborhoods. By definition, a walkable neighborhood has stores, restaurants, schools, and parks near enough that you won’t need a car to get to them. Sounds great, but when you’re shopping for a new home it’s hard to know whether the neighborhood in question is walkable. If walkability is a priority for you, check out Walk Score, a website that culls information from Google to rate neighborhood walkability from 1 to 100. Enter the address of a property and Walk Score will map the surrounding area and display the distance to each feature location. It also rates the neighborhood from “worst” to “best” in terms of walkability. Using this site can help you zero-in on or eliminate entire neighborhoods in your home search. I’ll definitely be using it the next time I move.
