The economic decline may, at first, seem like a good thing for the environment; a reduction in means would seem to equal less consumption and less demand on the environment. Not so, according to this article from OnEarth. A few years ago, the escalating cost of conventional fuels created a flood of investment in renewable energy technology. That push is ebbing now as non-renewable, pollution-causing resources such as coal and oil are plunging in cost. Wind and solar factories are now laying off employees. Bad news for us all.
