An agreement between home appliance manufacturers and energy efficiency advocacy groups will see widespread improvements in energy standards and tax policies for major home appliances like refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, dishwashers and room air conditioners.
Member companies of the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM), the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) and others have stepped up to the plate, promising higher standards on appliances that will result in significant carbon emission reductions and water conservation.
What can consumers expect to see?
Try refrigerators that use 20-30% less energy, clothes washers that see 40% water and energy savings, tax or consumer incentives for “smart appliances” and more.
It’s an historic step forwards in the world of residential energy savings and water conservation and it promises to save trillions of gallons of water, billions of consumer dollars and maybe–just maybe–step our planet back from the precipice.
