The first round winners for the first ever Department of Energy Apps for Energy competition were recently announced by the government agency.

First launched back in early April, the Apps for Energy competition challenged software developers to create web and mobile phone apps that help customers better understand their energy usage.

The competing teams all used Green Button, an open standard for electricity data sharing that is already available to consumers and businesses across America.

The winners include:

  • Leafully, an app that lets customers visualize their energy usage data in creative ways, like the number of trees required to offset the individual’s energy usage.
  • Velobill, an app that makes it easy for customers to determine if their energy usage is high or low and how it compares to peers.
  • Check out the full list of winners on the Department of Energy website.
